The antique work is signed in the lower right F. Reynaud, a French painter active in the 19th-century French art scene.
François Reynaud (1825–1909) was born in Marseille and was a pupil of Augustin Aubert and Émile Loubon. From 1848, he regularly exhibited his works at the Salon des Artistes Français in Paris, the most important official exhibition in France at the time.
He received a medal in 1867 and a bronze medal in 1889 at the Exposition Universelle.
Many works by this artist are found in various museums: Aix en Provence, Pontoise, Reims.
The painting is set in a finely worked contemporary gilded frame, which further enhances its historical and decorative character.
