The antique paintings category offers a large oil on canvas painting depicting an elegant female portrait, typical of French Belle Époque painting. Period: Second Half of the 19th Century. French Antiques.
The young woman is portrayed in a half-figure, dressed in a dark, very sober dress, embellished with delicate chromatic accents on the chest.
The face, finely modeled by light, emerges from a dark, blurred background, creating a strong chiaroscuro contrast that enhances the intense expression of her gaze. The soft brushwork and atmospheric rendering are reminiscent of 19th-century realist and intimate painting.
The antique work is signed in the lower right corner by F. Reynaud, a French painter active in the 19th-century French art scene.
François Reynaud (1825–1909) was born in Marseille and was a student of Augustin Aubert and Émile Loubon. From 1848, he regularly exhibited his works at the Salon des Artistes Français in Paris, the most important official exhibition in France at the time.
He received a medal in 1867 and a bronze medal in 1889 at the Exposition Universelle.
Many of this artist's works are found in various museums: Aix en Provence, Pontoise, Reims.
The painting is set in a finely crafted contemporary gilded frame, which further enhances its historical and decorative character.
The frame and the oil painting have been accurately and professionally restored.
