The antique Flemish still life painting, offered here, is an oil painting on board from the late 19th century and is presented with an antique gilded frame in genuine gold leaf.
The artwork depicts a composition of objects on a table covered with a white, pleated tablecloth. The elements are arranged with great balance and attention to detail: In the foreground, there is a round loaf of bread on a dark metal plate. In the background, a bunch of light-colored grapes, a bulbous glass filled with red wine, and a finely crafted transparent blue glass goblet can be seen. To the right, a golden metal object, a chalice, adds a touch of light and richness. The antique artwork shows remarkable technical mastery in the rendering of surfaces: the glass, metal, and fabric are treated with realism and attention to light. Antique paintings on board, still life dated 1886 and signed lower right by Jos Delehaye (20th-19th century), a Belgian painter active in the 19th century and the first decades of the 20th century.
The oil painting and the frame have been carefully and professionally restored.
