Walnut three-drawer chest of drawers with a "secretaire" on the upper level. Twisted columns resting on large blocks. Bologna, 17th century  Translated
Description:
Description The structure is characterized by a large base and protruding pilasters. The refined decorative apparatus, derived from Roman models (such as the twisted columns resting on large blocks, which function as pilasters), should not be surprising. It enriches and lightens the strong volume of the furniture; one should not forget that, at the time, the city of Bologna was effectively the second capital of the Papal States, and therefore in close contact with the fashions and tastes in vogue in Rome. The top of the chest of drawers, in solid walnut, projects significantly. The narrow band running under the top surface houses a drawer with a markedly elongated profile. Fine molded cornices frame the drawers, while more pronounced relief frames form two large panels on the sides. Dimensions 163cm x 69cm h: 99cm Provenance Private collection Bibliography G. Manni, Mille mobili emiliani. Artioli Editore, Modena, 1980, fig. 154-155, pp. 81. Condition Defects and restorations.  Translated
