Description:
Description The Holy Bible in Italian. That is, the Old and New Testaments in the purity of the vulgar, modern, and correct language, corresponding in everything to the true fundamental text... a volume most useful to all those desiring their own health, enriched with ardent sighs to God, almost for every chapter. By Mattia d'Erberg, a scholar of the Holy Scriptures. Nuremberg, at the expense of this same author, residing near the Three Kings hotel, in the year 1712. Two volumes bound in one. With two beautiful copper-engraved frontispieces by J.J. Wolff after a design by P. Decker, containing an allegorical representation of the Old and New Testaments, woodcut headpieces and initials, and a vignette in the center of the first title page. Solid and elegant contemporary binding in full stiff vellum, spine with raised bands and covers decorated with gilt fillets and a central coat of arms. Esteemed eighteenth-century edition of this famous translation by Diodati, which first appeared in 1607. It is considered the first translation into Italian based solely on original texts. This translation, which also contains the apocryphal writings, was for centuries the translation par excellence for Italian Protestants. After this one, successive revisions of Diodati's Bible appeared in Leipzig in 1744 edited by J.D. Muller and in 1819 by J.B. Roland. Uncommon, especially in such a state of preservation and in a beautiful binding like the present copy. Dimensions in-folio (328x199mm) pp. (4) 808; 207 (1) Provenance Private collection Conditions Some stains. General signs of wear.  Translated
