The Virgin Sewing with Three Angels - first half of the 17th century  Translated
Description:
The Virgin Sewing with Three Angels Emilian School, first half of the 17th century Technique: Oil on copper Description: This rare and fascinating work, created in the Emilian school of the 17th century, depicts an unusual subject among Marian representations: a "working Madonna." The Virgin is captured in a moment of intimacy and domestic serenity, seated while sewing, flanked by three angels who pay homage to her. The theme of the "Madonna Sewing," although rare, is present in other works of art: one of the most well-known examples is a fresco by Guido Reni, painted between 1609 and 1611, in the Palazzo del Quirinale, as well as a fresco attributed to Vitale da Bologna, now kept in the National Art Gallery of Bologna. The delicacy of the scene is accentuated by the harmonious gestures of the Virgin and the arrangement of the angels in an attitude of adoration. The contrast between the vivid colors of the robes and the dark background makes the whole visually striking. The copper as a pictorial support gives the painting a particular chromatic brilliance, emphasizing the elegance and sacredness of the scene. This work represents a valuable example of Emilian devotional painting, particularly appreciable for the attention to detail and for the representation of the Virgin in a moment of daily activity, accompanied by the reassuring presence of angels. Frame: Gilded wood, finely carved, in classical style Dimensions: 40 cm x 35 cm  Translated
