Origin: Veneto, Italy
Wood: Solid cherry wood
Structural and Stylistic Description
A refined "scantonata" (angled-corner) sideboard from the Veneto region, dating back to the late 18th century, entirely crafted from cherry wood, a material prized for its beautiful warm patina, vibrant grain, and extraordinary natural luster.
The piece is distinguished by its characteristic broken front with three visual levels, featuring forty-five-degree angled corners that lighten its volume.
The Upper Body: Beneath the elegantly shaped top, a dynamic frieze houses three drawers: a large central drawer and two smaller drawers on the angled corners, all adorned with bronze pulls.
The Lower Body: The lower section echoes the dynamism of the upper part with four fielded panel doors (two central doors and two on the angled corners). These open to a spacious interior divided by a sturdy original shelf.
The Base: The sideboard rests on elegant, shaped bracket feet, typical of late 18th-century Venetian cabinetry, which enhance the structure's slenderness and ensure perfect stability.
Technical Details and Condition
Hardware: Wrought iron pivot hinges ("cannon" hinges).
Condition: Excellent general condition. The piece retains its original patina, with a splendid shellac finish that highlights the warm honey tones of the cherry wood. Its original structural integrity is preserved, including the drawer bottoms and interiors.
