The category of antique paintings, Landscape Paintings, offered here, is an oil painting on canvas from the 19th century.
It is an antique painting, from the 19th century, which depicts a natural landscape, created with great painterly sensitivity and attention to detail. The scene represents an idyllic river landscape, with a stream flowing gently among ancient trees, rocks, and lush vegetation, immersed in a warm and atmospheric light typical of 19th-century Romantic painting.
The work, characterized by harmonious colors and soft brushstrokes, conveys a strong sense of peace and naturalism, evoking the unspoiled beauty of the 19th-century countryside. In the foreground and along the path bordering the stream, some washerwomen can be distinguished, captured in a moment of daily work.
The work is an oil painting that includes a golden frame in real gold leaf, original and coeval to the antique painting.
These are 19th-century antique paintings, signed by Lortet, a French landscape painter, on the bottom right.
Leberecht Lortet (1828-1901), born to French parents in Heidelberg, Germany, lived for a long time in Lyon, France.
A student of Alexandre Calame in Geneva, he exhibited from 1858 at the "Salon de Lyon" and then from 1859 to 1870 at the "Salon Des Artistes Français".
He loved to paint mountain landscapes and studied the effect of light on the water of lakes and on rocks, as seen in this work.
Many works by this artist are preserved and exhibited in various French museums.
The antique frame and the painting have been professionally and meticulously restored.
