To the right, Mary and Joseph witness the scene with expressions of astonishment and relief. The architectural background, with columns and a circular structure, recalls the interior of the Temple of Jerusalem, evoked in a classical style. The painting was likely intended for an ecclesiastical or conventual setting with a devotional purpose, highlighting Christ's wisdom from His youth and the centrality of the Word. In terms of style and composition, the work is close to Neapolitan painting of the late 17th century, with influences from Luca Giordano and Francesco Solimena.
