Three young women in elegant dresses, immersed in domestic and intellectual activities. The woman on the left reads a book, the one in the center observes attentively, while the woman on the right works on an embroidery or knitting with a delicate thread. In the background, a small dog decorated with a collar can be glimpsed, adding a touch of family affection to the composition. The soft lighting and details of the clothes suggest an intimate and refined atmosphere.

Giovanni Battista Panario (also known as Giobatta Panario) was a Ligurian painter born in Genoa in 1841 and died in the same city in 1899. He probably trained within the family environment, being the son of the painter Santo Panario, with whom he collaborated on some religious works. He worked actively in the 19th century, specializing in paintings with sacred themes and portraits.
Among his main works are "San Giuseppe e Gesù Bambino" (1873), currently preserved in Genoa, and some commissions related to the decoration of local churches such as the Church of San Rocco and the convent of the Discalced Carmelites. He also participated in the exhibitions of the Società Promotrice di Belle Arti of Genoa between 1851 and 1864.
His father, Santo Panario, was an artist known for portraits and religious works, influenced by the late-Baroque tradition. The Panario family is therefore associated with an artistic tradition linked to the Genoese territory and Liguria in general.
