Pair of twelve-light candelabras in carved, lacquered and gilded wood, from central Italy and dating back to the 18th century.
The use of carved wood is common in furniture and art objects of the 18th century. The carvings allow to create complex decorative details, such as acanthus leaves, which add refinement to the piece.
Lacquering and gilding were common techniques for embellishing furniture and art objects of this period. The candelabras are mounted on a lacquered base in shades of sienna yellow and marbling in shades of yellow with gilded frames.
The presence of twelve lights on each candelabra makes them very impressive and suggestive when lit.
The shape of the candelabras is extremely refined, the gilded acanthus leaves on each single arm of the torchiere are very beautiful.
