Mario Schifano, an artist with a rebellious and incisive spirit, is considered today one of the most prolific painters of the post-war period. He immediately attracted critical attention by creating monochrome paintings that offered the idea of a photographic screen which would later accommodate numbers, letters, road signs, and logos from Esso and Coca Cola. He lived in New York where he met Frank O’Hara, Jasper Johns, and Andy Warhol.
