View of the Roman Forum, Giacomo Van Lint (Rome 1723 - 1790)  Translated
Description:
Giovanni Giacomo Van Lint (Rome 1723 - 1790) View of the Roman Forum Oil on canvas (53.5 x 68 cm - framed 60 x 75 cm.) Expertise by Prof. Giancarlo Sestieri (Rome, 2010) Full details of the artwork (click HERE) This delightful "View of the Roman Forum" (oil on canvas, 53.5 x 68 cm), of imaginative invention, freely inspired by the ruins of the Palatine, with the insertion on the right of a clearing with rural buildings, is an interesting testimony to Roman vedutismo of the mid-eighteenth century. The work can be attributed to the hand of Giovanni Giacomo Van Lint (Rome 1723 - 1790) based not only on the aforementioned exhibition taste but also on the analysis of the figurative imprint with which the "small figures" that animate this scene are executed: from the couple strolling on the left, to the children playing on a makeshift swing next to two agricultural carts, to the woman with a basket on her head, and to the minute figures moving in the background. Son of the artist Hendrik Frans van Lint (1684-1763), Giacomo achieved solid fame as a vedutista, accurately depicting the city of Rome following his father's footsteps, while expressing his own stylistic personality, dedicating himself primarily to "veduta," both realistic and imaginatively inspired, as in the present painting. The artist's work is characterized by a luminous chromatic tone, with the sunlight tending to fade, imparting a delicate sense of chromatic tranquility. These aspects were highly appreciated by foreign travelers of the Grand Tour, which allows us to classify his production as a true genre, certainly vedutistic, but intended for those who desired a 'souvenir' - as we would define it today - of the Eternal City. The painter worked mainly for the overseas public, and his works were kept in private European collections, particularly in English ones. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: The work is sold complete with a beautiful gilded frame and is accompanied by a certificate of authenticity and a descriptive iconographic sheet. We handle and organize the transport of purchased artworks, both for Italy and abroad, through professional and insured carriers.
