Portrait Painting of a Bersagliere  Translated
Description:
Oil on canvas. The soldier depicted here is recognizable as a Bersagliere from the Risorgimento period by the characteristics of his uniform. His belonging to the special corps of the Italian infantry is indicated above all by the typical hat, called Moretto or Vaira, characterized by a wide brim and a feather (called a plume) attached to the back left; on the front, however, is the cockade with the Italian tricolor, which dates the period to after 1848, and below it, two crossed carbines. The dark blue, almost black uniform jacket with a high collar was in use by the corps until the end of the 19th century, later replaced by a gray-green uniform. The soldier holds his carbine at the bottom, which he is loading: his proud and resolute gaze looks far away, at the enemy awaiting him; behind him, a dark sky heavy with clouds underlines the gravity of the moment, although some rosy clouds at the bottom give rise to hope for a brighter future. The painting is presented in a late 19th-century frame. Product condition: Product in good condition, shows minor signs of wear.
