This magnificent composition depicts two putti holding a garland of flowers, set against a refined architectural element with bas-reliefs and mascarons, presumably the top of a fountain.
One of the putti holds part of it charmingly with his hands, while turning his head towards the viewer; the second putto, however, must have clumsily broken the string holding his end, and sits sulking with a torch and a tear rolling down his chubby cheek.
The work, given its stylistic characteristics and compositional taste, is attributable to the Flemish artist Jacob de Wit (Amsterdam, 1695 - 1754), or to an artist from his workshop, with his typical triumphant and opulent style, which .... (full details directly on our website LINK)
