This elegant small table with a writing desk was made in France, during the Louis XVI period, in the second half of the 18th century. Designed for use as a center table, it is characterized by slender proportions and refined veneering with different wood species.
The rectangular top is in Breccia d'Aleppo marble set within a solid, ingottiera-style gilded bronze frame that protects its edges and highlights its geometric design. The front features a pull-out writing surface at the top, offering a convenient work area. Below, a false drawer conceals a compartment accessible from the side, via a drawer divided into three inkwell compartments that opens the full width, designed to hold inks, blotting sand, and small writing accessories. Further down the front, the bottom drawer is real and usable.
The structure is entirely veneered in wood, with geometric green wood fillets delimiting elegant central inlays of rosewood arranged in a large herringbone pattern on the drawer fronts and other sides.
The table stands on tapered truncated-pyramidal legs, also veneered, which end in small feet and are enriched at the top with applications of gilded bronze friezes in a classical style. A lower shelf, also veneered, connects the legs and provides a useful service space while visually lightening the piece.
A functional and high-quality piece, decorative and elegant, it is ideal as a center table-writing desk in a living room, study, or next to armchairs and sofas, also usable as a bedside table, perfect both in classic interiors and contemporary settings.
