Giuseppe Bernardino Bison (Palmanova 1762 - Milan 1844) - Holy Family.  Translated
Description:
Giuseppe Bernardino Bison (Palmanova 1762 - Milan 1844) - Holy Family. 32 x 26 cm (unframed) - 36 x 30 cm (framed). Pencil and white chalk drawing on paper, in a gilded wooden frame. Work signed lower right: "Bison". Giuseppe Bernardino Bison was one of the protagonists of the late 18th-century Venetian season, trained in the tradition of academic drawing and capable of interpreting the styles of the late eighteenth century with a distinctly personal lightness of touch. Active between Venice, Trieste, and finally Milan, where he died in 1844, he left a graphic production of high quality, appreciated even by contemporaries. The sheet depicts a half-figure Holy Family: the Madonna, shown in three-quarter view with her hair pinned up, holds the Child in her arms while a second male figure—identifiable as Saint Joseph—appears in the background on the left. The technique, pencil and white chalk on paper prepared in a brown tone, is executed with confidence and fluency, with lights constructed by short strokes that effectively model the volumes. The drawing is an autograph work, as evidenced by the signature on the lower right. Condition report: Good condition of the paper support. There are some abrasions and general yellowing due to age.
