Measures: 145 x 63 x 103 cm
Materials: Walnut, walnut burl, fruitwoods for marquetry
Refined curved commode of high cabinetmaking, a superb example of Neapolitan manufacture. The piece features a three-drawer front characterized by a sinuous and flowing line, typical of the "barocchetto" style of Southern Italy.
The surface is entirely veneered in walnut burl of exceptional quality, framed by reserves and stringing in contrasting woods. Of particular value are the central decorations with star-shaped geometric patterns, created using marquetry techniques, which enclose the heart-shaped locks original to the period.
The style perfectly aligns with the transition period between Louis XIV and Louis XV, blending the structural solidity of the former with the curvilinear elegance and ornamental lightness of the latter. The curved sides and saber legs give dynamism to the entire structure.
The item dates back to the first half of the 18th century (circa 1730-1750) and testifies to the extremely high craftsmanship of the Neapolitan workshops of the era.
Its state of conservation is excellent, with the original patina enhanced by a spirit polish that highlights the natural grain and the depth of the burl.
