This elegant console was made in the Barocchetto period, around the mid-18th century, in Piedmont.
The Bardiglio grey marble top has a wavy and molded profile. The under-top frieze is very distinctive, finely carved and gilded wood, pierced both on the front, on the uprights, and on the sides. The rich and dynamic ornamentation consists of rocaille elements and symmetrical phytomorphic elements, which in the center create a sort of frame for a rose. The uprights of the two legs are characteristic of the period, dynamic, arched, and richly carved.
The legs end in volutes and curls and are connected at the bottom by a wavy stretcher, in gilded, carved, and pierced wood to create an asymmetric rocaille-style decoration.
This console, which stands out for the refinement of its carvings and the abundant presence of pierced elements, recalls the French Louis XV taste that Piedmont used as a stylistic reference. It appears very bright and decorative. Although rich in ornamentation, it is graceful and can easily be placed in various environments, such as entrances and hallways, but also living rooms or bedrooms, whether paired with antique or modern furnishings.
