Beautifully carved pine wood sculpture depicting a cherub holding a bunch of grapes, allegorically connected to the cult of Bacchus. The invention of covering the cherub's nudity with a draped cloth held by a shoulder strap is elegant, and the anatomy is well-structured. The cherub stands on a fake rocky ground that recalls the taste of the Roman Rococo style.
The carving, likely from Northern Italy, is datable to around the mid-eighteenth century.
The height of the work is 72cm.
