OCTAGONAL FRAME WITH MOTHER-OF-PEARL MEDALLIONS
Baroque, likely Italy, early 18th century. Dimensions: 35x35 cm.
Gilded brass, copper, ebonized wood, mother-of-pearl, and transparent red stone. Octagonal torch frame with refined brass applications in rococo style and winged cherub heads. The section features four medallions framed by laurel garlands and a central gem. Two of the mother-of-pearl medallions are relief-carved with depictions of the crowned Virgin Mary with the Child Jesus (left) and the stigmata of Saint Francis of Assisi (right). The engraved or painted brass medallions depict Saint Anthony of Padua (bottom) and Saint Bernardino of Siena (top). Engraving "Pertinens Loco S." on the back of the brass mirror.
