PAINTING WITH MADONNA AND CHILD ON GOLD BACKGROUND EARLY 15TH CENTURY  Translated
Description:
Refined and unique oil painting on solid walnut wood panel, with a precious gold background, depicting a Madonna and Child with a goldfinch. This is a typical example of Italian and Tuscan devotional painting, featuring the Madonna, with her head tilted towards her son, holding the child Jesus with one hand. Jesus is portrayed standing, with a torso almost adult-like and girded with a red tunic that leaves his chest uncovered. A special feature of this representation is the presence of the goldfinch, which the Madonna holds in her other hand. Furthermore, the bird is tied to a string held in the hand of the child Jesus. The goldfinch is not depicted by chance, as it is a premonitory symbol of Christ's passion. Exquisite and refined are also the punched decorations, with small circles or motifs impressed on the gold, present both in the halos and in the decorations of the garments. Probably, the panel was originally a tabernacle, hence its pointed shape, and it underwent conservation restorations in the last century. It is a work of great taste and elegance, capable of adding a touch of antiquity to any environment. The painting also comes with an export certificate. Due to the stylistic techniques of representation, this splendid work is attributable to the Sienese school of Lippo Menni, datable to around the early 15th century.
