This is a charming genre painting executed by a skilled artist inclined to portray carefree scenes of daily life, in this case this nice boy busy cutting a melon. Tangible stylistic similarities can be found with the sublime pictorial and portraiture styles of Vittore Ghislandi, known as Fra Galgario, especially in the warm colours used and the expressive frankness of the subject.
The painting is worthy of further study. The canvas is in excellent overall condition, with a fairly recent relining, and is mounted in a beautiful gilded and carved frame in style. Dimensions 34 x 42 cm / frame dimensions 50 x 58 cm.
