Francesco Stanga, Bust of a Child in Carrara Marble, 1837, signed and dated on the back of the bust. The sculpture depicts a four-year-and-nine-month-old child with a joyful disposition, as stated in the inscription in capital letters, incised and gilded on the base of the bust: 'CONTO UN LUSTRO D’ETA’ MENO TRE LUNE – M’E’ IL SORRISO . IL GIOIR . VEZZO COMUNE.' The child wears a scarf tied around their neck over a shirt with a wide collar.
The identity of the child is unknown, unlike that of the artist, Francesco Stanga, engraved on the back of the sculpture along with the date. Stanga was a sculptor active in the province of Brescia in the first half of the 19th century. The artwork is carved from white Carrara marble, it is a Lombard sculpture with Neoclassical influence, it is in good condition, and it comes from a private collection in Milan.
