Still life with flowers and citrus, follower of Abraham Brueghel (Antwerp, 1631 – Naples, 1697)  Translated
Description:
Still life with flowers and citrus Follower of Abraham Brueghel (Antwerp, 1631 – Naples, 1697) Oil on canvas (70 x 52 cm. - Framed 85 x 67 cm.) Details of the artwork (click HERE) The composition depicts a rich bouquet composed of various botanical varieties, including white and pink roses, anemones, carnations and fringed-petaled tulips, placed in a glass vase. In the foreground, on a stone countertop, there are two lemons and a cut red tulip, details typical of Baroque still lifes to create depth and realism. The painting, of pleasant pictorial quality as well as conservation status, is characterized by its richness and chromatic brilliance and can be dated between the late 17th and early 18th centuries. The pictorial style facilitates its attribution to an author stylistically linked to the Northern tradition among the followers of Abraham Brueghel (Antwerp 1631 – Naples 1697), Flemish by origin but active in Italy for most of his career, first in Rome and then in Naples, one of the European protagonists of the still life genre in the second half of the 17th century. Abraham Brueghel is credited with the diffusion of a new compositional model for still life, in which “displays” of colorful flowers are often juxtaposed with juicy fruits, highlighted by sharp light and brilliant colors.
