Artist: Francesco Casorati (Turin, 1934 - 2013)
Dimensions: 327 x 490 mm (plate)
Materials: Engraving on paper
A refined graphic work created with the combined technique of etching and aquatint by master Francesco Casorati. The work is distinguished by a monochrome palette played on shades of blue, which gives the composition a dreamlike and suspended atmosphere.
The subject presents a complex architectural or scenographic structure, similar to a large aviary or a parade float on wheels, populated by symbolic figures, birds, and cages. The precision of the etching line blends harmoniously with the granular areas of the aquatint, creating depth and very evocative chiaroscuro variations.
The work is an Artist's Proof (P.d.A.), as indicated by the monogram in the lower left, and is signed in pencil by the artist in the lower right. Francesco Casorati, a "son of art," developed his own autonomous language characterized by magical and fairy-tale realism, of which this print is an excellent example.
The engraving dates to the second half of the 20th century. It is in excellent condition, framed with a passe-partout within a linear frame that enhances its compositional rigor.
