Wooden crown, gilded. Crown for a statue of the Madonna or Saints, carved from wood on a circular base with a border adorned with hemispherical reliefs simulating the jewels of a royal crown, and a body flaring upwards with nine stylized "acanthus leaf" points.
The unfinished interior, showing chisel marks, confirms the functional and liturgical use of the object, and that this surface was intended to disappear once placed on the statue's head and secured in the lower hole.
The fine gold gilding is applied with gouache on Armenian bole preparation.
Central Italy, late 18th century.
