A rich floral composition, arranged with deliberate randomness on two planes at different heights, where the two floral bouquets are gathered in large metal vases; some flowers seem to overflow from their places and fall to the ground, in an ensemble that is distinguished by its elegant structure, combined with the freshness and brilliance of the colors.
The soft and blended way in which the color is applied and the points of contact with 17th-century Lombard painting allow us to attribute the work to the circle of the Milanese painter Francesca Volò Smiller, known as Vincenzina (Milan, 1657 - 1700), a refined specialist in this genre of painting, and an important exponent of the most numerous and prolific family of Milanese painters of the 17th century.
The progenitor of this "family enterprise" of the highest level and equally successful was her father, the Italianized Frenchman Vincenzo Volò, known as Vincenzino dei Fiori (1601-1671), who, in addition to Francesca, also employed her brother Giuseppe Volò (also nicknamed "Vicenzino") and her sister Margherita Volò Caffi in his workshop.
Francesca's painting is characterized by high executive quality, by the rendering of flowers through intense and heartfelt naturalism, with a prevalence of acidic and cool colors enlivened by touches of deep red and illuminated by the skillful use of white; Francesca arranges cut flowers or those arranged in vases with great compositional freedom outdoors, whose sparkling colors (preferably pink, white, and yellow) emerge from the dark background.
The canvas is in a good state of preservation.
