Pair of finely inlaid walnut trumeau cabinets. Veneto, 18th century.  Translated
Description:
Pair of finely inlaid walnut trumeau cabinets. Veneto, 18th century. 116 x 62 x h 237.5 cm. The two trumeau cabinets, matching each other, are entirely veneered in walnut with carob wood inlays, whose irregular grain animates the background of the panels. The marquetry decoration, executed with light woods on a dark background, extends over the entire surface with motifs of volutes, foliage, and intertwined tendrils distributed on every register of the furniture. Grotesque-style mascarons appear at the corners and on the drawer fronts, integrated into the overall inlay design. The structure is articulated into a lower body with three drawers and a pull-down writing desk, a middle body with an arched mirrored door, and a shaped top with a sinuous profile. In the center of the top is an inlaid noble effigy—presumably the heraldic coat of arms of the original commission—within a symmetrical composition of ribbons and volutes. The drawers and doors have gilt bronze double-knob hardware. The sides echo the decorative scheme with panels centered by cartouche motifs.
