Guglielmo Ciardi (Venice 1842 - Venice 1917) - Badoere Market.  Translated
Description:
Guglielmo Ciardi (Venice 1842 - Venice 1917) - Badoere Market. 20 x 27.5 cm (unframed) - 44.5 x 51 cm (framed). Pencil drawing on paper, within a passe-partout, in a wooden frame. Artwork signed lower left: “G. Ciardi”. Guglielmo Ciardi is among the protagonists of Venetian painting in the latter half of the 19th century, trained at the Venice Academy of Fine Arts and linked to the tradition of realism derived from the Macchiaioli, with particular attention to the lagoon and mainland landscape. This drawing depicts the market of Badoere, a village in the Treviso area known for its 18th-century elliptical portico, rendered here with confident lines and compositional synthesis. The scene enlivens the loggia and the square in front with figures of vendors and passers-by, captured naturally in their daily gestures. The perspective construction, with the portico in the foreground opening onto the crowded square and the bell tower in the background, reveals the author's graphic mastery and his sensitivity to the popular life of rural Veneto.
