Pio Semeghini (Quistello 1878 - Verona 1964) - Falzè di Piave.  Translated
Description:
Pio Semeghini (Quistello 1878 - Verona 1964) - Falzè di Piave. 25.5 x 34.5 cm (unframed) - 52 x 61 cm (framed). Charcoal and pastel drawing on paper, within a passe-partout, in a wooden frame. Work signed lower left: "Falzè di Piave. Semeghini". Pio Semeghini trained between Venice and Paris, where he came into contact with the post-impressionist and fauve environment, developing a personal language based on chromatic synthesis and lightness of line. Among the protagonists of 20th-century Italian painting, he was one of the founders of the Ca' Pesaro group and a key figure for 20th-century Venetian painting. The drawing depicts a hilly landscape near Falzè di Piave, a location in the Marca Trevigiana dear to the artist. The view opens onto a vast green expanse enlivened by trees and scattered houses on the slope, with the roof of a rural building in the foreground. The mixed technique of charcoal and pastels allows Semeghini to capture the vibrant luminosity of the Venetian landscape with a few strokes, in an immediate and highly fresh execution.
