Beautiful and emotional 19th-century painting on panel with a gold background, depicting one of the most iconic crucifixions of the Italian 15th century, namely Masaccio's crucifixion. Slightly larger in size than the master's 15th-century work, this painting also encapsulates all the deep emotion of the moment of Jesus Christ's passing: the Madonna with her blue robe and hands clasped in sorrow, Saint John with his heartbroken expression, to whom the Madonna was entrusted by Jesus' last words ("behold your mother", symbolizing the Madonna's spiritual motherhood towards all humanity), the kneeling Magdalene with her hands outstretched towards the sky and her red robe, the Tree of Life on the Cross representing the rebirth of life itself.
