Christ Carrying the Cross  Translated
Description:
Giovan Pietro Rizzoli, known as Giampietrino (Milan 1485-1553) "Christ Carrying the Cross" Oil on panel Circa 1530 Panel dimensions 55 x 75 cm Frame dimensions 65 x 85 cm The work is painted on a single poplar panel, as was customary in the most important workshops of the early 16th century. Excellent condition of preservation. This magnificent work, a true gem of the Lombard Renaissance, is clearly attributable to the oeuvre of Giovan Pietro Rizzoli, known as Giampietrino. In addition to its truly unique and unmistakable stylistic characteristics, the attribution is confirmed by comparisons with some of his analogous paintings, particularly with a panel attributed to the Master exhibited at the Diocesan Museum of Milan, which unequivocally presents all the same pictorial peculiarities with the same range of colors. (See photo on our website) The version of the "Carrying the Cross" presented here differs in the face of Christ turned towards the viewer on the left side and in the different position of the hands. The same posture is found in a panel recently auctioned by DOROTHEUM in Vienna, valued at €80,000 - €120,000 and sold for €75,000 plus auction fees (€94,050). See photo on our website. Among the known versions of this subject, this is undoubtedly one of the most interesting executed by the Milanese Master. Working in close contact with Leonardo, Giampietrino assimilated his pictorial teachings and a strong charge of esotericism, which characterizes the faces of his subjects. The work is in excellent condition with very fine and uniform craquelure across the entire painted surface. (See detail in high definition on our website) We provide a stamped and signed certificate of authenticity that guarantees the period, provenance, and all characteristics of the work, drawn up by an antiquarian affiliated with FIMA (FEDERAZIONE ITALIANA MERCANTI D'ARTE). Delivery in Italy and throughout Europe within 3 days of receipt of bank transfer. The shipment is tracked and insured and travels with careful shockproof packaging inside a custom-made wooden crate.
