Oil painting on canvas, "Child Jesus" - 18th century
The Savior of the World, depicted seated on a cloud, is captured in a spontaneous pose.
The Child Jesus is represented nude and present, wrapped in a soft pink veil, leaning on the celestial globe and indicating it with his right hand.
The painting symbolizes the triumph of Faith, a concept reinforced by the Light that illuminates the Child Jesus.
The work is distinguished by the softness of the flesh, rendered with warm glazes and delicate sfumato, and by the pictorial quality evident in the details of the hands and the anatomical modeling. The balanced and intimate composition recalls the late Baroque pictorial tradition of Italian art.
Condition: The conditions reflect the age of the work:
* Wear of the pictorial surface with small losses
* Loss of color and abrasions, visible mainly in the lower areas and along the edges
* Craquelure and signs of age consistent with the period
* Small triangular additions to the canvas at the corners. In my opinion, the canvas was originally oval.
* It is possible to appreciate the pictorial restorations by observing the photographs taken with a Wood's lamp.
Overall, the work retains a beautiful aesthetic impact and pleasant readability, with an authentic patina.
