Base: The bust rests on a gilded architectural base bearing the inscription: "BUSTO DI NICCOLÒ DA UZZANO. OPERA DI DONATELLO."
The original polychrome terracotta work is attributed to the master Donatello (c. 1432) and is preserved at the Bargello National Museum in Florence. It is famous for its almost photographic realism and for the "antique-style" drapery reminiscent of Roman busts.
