Maternity, Madonna and Child – Oil on panel, 17th/18th century

Fascinating oil painting on panel depicting an intense scene of Maternity, traditionally interpretable as the Madonna and Child. The composition strikes with its sweetness: the young mother, with a protective and natural gesture, cradles the sleeping child on her chest. The work is distinguished by its strong emotional charge and intimate atmosphere. The soft light enhances the flesh tones, while the dark tones of the background create an elegant contrast, typical of Italian painting between the 17th and 18th centuries. The transparent veil and the sensitive rendering of the volumes attest to an expert hand, attentive to the grace and harmony of the composition.

Good general condition with signs of age consistent with the period. The wooden panel is composed of multiple planks visible on the back, where we also note three ancient transverse reinforcement elements (battens) to contain the natural movements of the wood over time. An evident vertical crack in the panel is present, which does not compromise the legibility of the image and underlines its authenticity.
