This beautiful overmantel painting, complete with its original frame, is an oil on canvas depicting a rural landscape with figures of travelers along the Aniene river. One is fishing, and the other is waiting on a white horse. The bridge depicted by the painter appears to be Ponte Mammolo, just outside Rome, offering us a glimpse of its appearance in the second half of the 17th century.
The painter demonstrates fine artistic qualities, both in the rendering of the small figures, executed with thick, quick, yet highly detailed brushstrokes, and in the faithful depiction of the environmental setting.
The painting is in excellent condition. However, a cleaning is recommended, as the painted patina appears slightly darkened by dirt and yellowing from old varnish applications.
