Vienna 1810-15. Rare bookcase from the Viennese Classicism period, in absolutely intact condition, still retaining its original Pompeian green fabric, slightly faded in areas exposed to light, folded in a concertina style. Gothic style motives on the front typical of the period and origin. It is masterfully inlaid and "mirrored" in cherry burl on the front and sides, with ebonized ornamental motifs. It has been consolidated and finished with shellac applied with a "pad" technique to museum standard over its original patina. Signed on the base by the master craftsman, as was sometimes the case for the most successful works of high Viennese cabinetmaking of the period. Dimensions: H. 164 cm, W. 100 cm, D. 35 cm. Perfect also for combining with modern designer furniture.
Observe the second image on this page, which is a computer simulation imagining the piece in a high-end modern interior design context. It reveals an astonishing "modernity", luminosity, and abstraction for a piece conceived over two centuries ago, adding a great touch of class and elegance to the overall composition. High Viennese cabinetmaking from the Classicism period (1770-1830), with its sober and minimalist elegance and precious, light-colored woods, blends very well with contemporary modern furniture lines.
