The back shows rough and deep chisel marks (normal in ancient works), traces of masonry or lime as it was certainly part of a building, on the upper part, the ancient (irregular) fixing hole can be noticed.
An interesting and relatively rare iconographic detail that increases collecting interest is the combination of an idealized female face and an architectural "mascherone" structure within a roundel.
Normally, architectural mascherones (especially Renaissance ones) depict:
* male faces
* grotesque figures
* divinities or mythological figures
In our case, however, we have a serene and idealized female face, almost like a portrait, set in a circular decorative composition. This combination is less common.
The hair is treated with deep, fluid waves that expand laterally almost like ornamental elements. This type of hairstyle:
* makes the portrait cute and decorative
* creates an almost architectural effect
The sculpted pearl necklace with separate beads is a curious element because:
* it recalls Renaissance noblewomen's portraits
* it is less frequent in simple architectural elements.
This detail suggests that the artist was not just creating an ornament, but a face with an almost allegorical portrait dignity.
