Painted leather screen. Italy, 19th century. 183 x 164 cm (maximum opening). Four-panel screen with a lobed, shaped top. The wooden frame is covered in leather and bordered with metal studs along the uprights. The panels are entirely oil-painted with a still life composition within an architectural niche: white and black grapes, peaches, melon, chestnuts, currants, and pumpkin arranged on a stone surface along with a wicker basket. The pictorial rendering connects to the Italian tradition of still life painting, with particular reference to 17th-century Neapolitan school models, in its handling of light and the scenic composition. Condition report: Good general condition. Some localized losses and abrasions on the painted surface.
