Exquisite pair of paintings executed with the oil on canvas technique, depicting rich still life compositions. The works feature a classical iconography that combines elements of game with seasonal fruits, set in differentiated scenographic contexts.
From a formal point of view, the first painting is distinguished by the presence of a carcass and hunting tools laid out on a surface covered by a vibrant red drape, under the shadow of dark drapery. The second panel offers a landscape opening in the background, where a cage, an owl, and a selection of fruit including grapes and pomegranates stand out, rendered with a skillful use of chiaroscuro.
The style directly refers to the prestigious Neapolitan still life school, characterized by rigorous naturalism and an almost tactile rendering of the objects. The theatrical lighting and the warm chromatic palette are typical of the Baroque production of southern Italy.
The works come from a private collection in Rome and date back to the full maturity of the 17th century. Both canvases are presented within molded wooden frames.
The state of conservation is compatible with the age of the works; the pictorial surface maintains good legibility despite the natural signs of time.
The frames are of the same age.
