Mid 1800s. A total of twelve volumes of cm 26.5, pp 8,500 overall. With 150 finely colored plates out of text, including the portrait of Buffon at the frontispiece of the first volume and an allegorical frontispiece to the second. Solid and elegant contemporary and uniform binding in half leather and red percaline, spines with raised bands with titles and fillets in gold. Only some slight and insignificant fading to the boards, otherwise a solidly bound, fresh copy, almost free of foxing and in excellent condition. All the plates are protected by original tissue paper. The work is divided as follows: Volume 1: Theorie de la Terre, Histoire des Animeaux; Volume 2: Le Homme, Animeaux domestiques; Volume 3: Les Quadrupedes; Volume 4: Les Singes, Add. aux Quadrupedes; Volumes 5-8: Les Oiseaux; Volume 9: Itrod. aux Minèraux, Epoques de la Nature; Volumes 10-11: Les Minèraux; Volume 12: Expériences sur le Végétaux, Arthmétique morale, Tables Generales des Matières. Edition based on the original in-4° from the Imprimerie royale and annotated by M. Flourens. Uncommon to find complete with all the plates and in such excellent condition as in the present copy.
