Fascinating Baroque-era collector's cabinet, made of ebonized wood and embellished with applications in bovine horn veneer, attributable to Northern Italy and datable to the second half of the 17th century.
The imposing architectural structure, with a great scenic presence, is organized according to a rigorous symmetrical layout, with numerous small drawers arranged around a central temple-like façade, characterized by turned columns and an architectural niche. The composition recalls the language of Nordic collection cabinets, reinterpreted in a Paduan key, testifying to the collecting taste of the 17th-century wunderkammer.
The fronts are decorated with panels in blond ox horn veneer, a material highly appreciated in the 17th century for its warm and marbled transparencies, here used as a refined alternative to more precious materials. The wooden surfaces feature a carved grid molding, typical of late-Mannerist production in the Alpine and Lombardy areas.
Particularly interesting is the central drawer with a balustrade, an element of strong decorative value, as is the presence of internal compartments and hidden compartments, characteristic of collection furniture intended to store coins, medals and precious objects.
The furniture retains an authentic and coherent patina, with signs of use compatible with the era. The structure is solid and well preserved; the slight natural cracks in the horn plates are physiological for the type and contribute to the charm of the whole.
An object of great character, ideal for collectors and for antique-style environments, capable of combining historical value, material rarity and a strong decorative impact.
