This is a copy of a Madonna in prayer painted by Giovan Battista Salvi, known as Sassoferrato, who became famous for this type of depiction of Mary, portrayed in an attitude of recollection, with her hands clasped and her head bowed. The painting has undergone restoration and relining in the past, with placement in a rectangular gilded frame from the late 1800s.
