Oil on canvas. Emilian school of the second half of the 17th century. Rose of Lima, a Peruvian nun (and currently the patron saint of Peru) of the Dominican Third Order, who lived at the turn of the 17th and 18th centuries, is depicted according to her traditional iconography, dressed in the Dominican habit, while in a praying attitude she welcomes the mystical vision of the Infant Jesus, who according to tradition makes her his bride by offering her a crown of roses; here the roses are placed on the stone in front of the girl. On the back of the work there is a cartouche that identifies the previous owners as the Bezzo Guazzone family, who resided in the Castle of Salabue of Ponzone Monferrato (Alessandria). The cartouche records the entrustment of the painting for participation in an exhibition until October 4, 1926. The painting has been previously relined. It is presented in a coeval frame.
