Description
Charles II sterling silver tankard, silversmith AL, London, 1676. A rare antique English silver tankard with a flat lid and a distinctive kidney-shaped thumbpiece. The S-shaped handle ends with a shield. The shape of this tankard first appears around 1640 and it is unusual to find one dating back to this turbulent and early period. Very charming, with hand-hammered silver, the tankard shows great character; an interesting detail is the pointed front of the lid. There is a shield engraved on the front.
