Wonderful, intact game table with delicate polychrome inlays. Can also be used as a console table. Vienna, second half of the 18th century  Translated
Description:
Austrian Empire 1760 - 1780 approx. Rare Rococo game table veneered, mirrored and inlaid in walnut, burr walnut and walnut feather, with inlays in maple, tinted maple, and ebonized maple. Dimensions: height 79 cm, 53x106 cm closed, 106x106 cm open. The refined work, with the patina and construction technique of the second half of the 18th century, presents stylistic elements attributable both to late Rococo and early Neoclassicism. Note the lower decorative motif with beading and the delicate inlay on the top, made in segments with also geometric motifs, together with the moving shape typical of the 18th century. Considering the executive and material qualities, it does not seem attributable to a provincial work where the introduction of new styles was sometimes expressed late, but rather to an urban work likely made in the period of transition between the two styles. In conditions of practical absolute integrity with a splendid patina, French polished with shellac using a museum-standard technique. Our gallery of antique game tables.
