Fine pair of oil on canvas paintings, depicting rich floral compositions within gilded vases. The works present a vibrant variety of botanical species, including variegated tulips and carnations, rendered with textured brushstrokes and a keen sensitivity to natural detail.
The compositions stand out against a dark background, typical of the Baroque tradition, which enhances the chromatic brilliance of the petals and the luster of the vases decorated with volute motifs. Light falls diagonally across the bouquets, creating a strong chiaroscuro contrast that gives volume and depth to the scenes.
Stylistically, the paintings are fully within the Roman ambit of the mid-17th century. The compositional taste and the rendering of floral details show close affinities with the production of Mario Nuzzi, celebrated as Mario dei Fiori, the main exponent of the still life genre in Baroque Rome.
The canvases are presented within elegant carved and gilded wooden frames from a later period, which enhance their decorative impact.
The state of conservation is very good, and the craquelure is compatible with the age of the works.
The beautiful gilded and finely carved frames are not coeval.
