LASINIO ENGRAVING WITH CHARACTERS, SECOND HALF OF THE 18TH CENTURY  Translated
Description:
Refined colored engraving on paper, in a carved and gilded wooden frame, protected by glass. The print reproduces a painting kept at the Uffizi Galleries by Gabriel Metsu, a Dutch painter (1629-1667), which depicts a knight and a lady in an interior scene. The knight, placed on the left, is depicted in the act of paying homage to the lady, dressed in a silk dress and cap, returning from the hunt. At the man's feet is a dog, while in his hand he carries a dead bird, as a sign of a gift to the woman. Also, the details of the room, including the table with tablecloth and objects, and the characterization of the interiors are of great taste. Various inscriptions can be read in the background of the engraving, from the left the attribution of the painting, in the center the signature of the creator of the print, i.e.: "Lasinio del. e incise", i.e. "Lasinio drew and engraved". In fact, the engraver of this work is the famous Carlo Lasinio (1759-1838), who worked mainly in Florence as an engraver, museum curator and teacher, and created colored engravings with overlapping plates. Finally, on the right we read "Labrelis impr", referring to the printer. It is a work of great taste and refinement, capable of giving a touch of class and antiquity to any environment. Florentine manufacture of the second half of the 18th century. Measurements: H x W x D overall 60 x 49 x 3.5cm; H x W of artwork only 52 x 40cm  Translated
