Germany or perhaps even Vienna 1795 - 1810; sphere of influence of David Roetgen. Very rare and admirable mechanical game table - convertible. Also as a desk or console table. A work of high cabinetmaking, of absolute integrity, masterfully veneered in flame mahogany, satinwood interiors with a sliding top that still retains its original leather. Finished with shellac applied by pad using a museum-standard technique. An ingenious mobile mechanism allows the front to be extracted, "revealing" the secret compartment with drawers and a sliding top. The top opens like a book and is also veneered in burr mahogany on the underside. Decorative details and brass inserts, as commonly used in David Roetgen's furniture. French polished with shellac using a museum standard finish on the original patina and absolute integrity. Measures cm. 94 wide, 46.5 deep when closed (93 the book-opened top), 81 high. Refined, elegant and sober antique furniture with a warm patina, perfect for combining with high-end modern design in an ensemble of great elegance and prestige.
Observe the second photo in this listing, which is a fictional computer simulation where the artwork is imagined in a high-end modern furnishing context. A surprising "modernity", luminosity and abstraction emerge for a work conceived two centuries ago, as well as a great touch of class and elegance to the ensemble. The high Viennese antique cabinetmaking, with its sober and minimal elegance, is closely linked to the lines of modern furniture.
